Blog Week 10
My research topic is performance
enhancing drugs. By definition, this is very broad. However, I am going to be
looking into the use of performance enhancing drugs by professional athletes.
Specifically, I am going to look at instances where athletes took performance
enhancing drugs that were illegal, and analyze the consequences and punishments
given to those athletes. I am going to be analyzing the moral and ethical
problems with the use of these drugs. Ultimately, I would like to come up with
a solution of what to do with the athletes that are caught taking performance
enhancing drugs during the competition of their respective sport.
The question that I will be
answering is more specific than my topic as a whole. As of now, I have decided
that my question will be, “How should professional athletes caught using
illegal performance enhancing drugs be punished?”.
This research project will be
argumentative. I am going to research the problem at hand, and really look in
between the lines and try to come up with an answer to my question. I would
like to argue that the claim that I will be making is correct, and that the
audience should agree and accept my solution. While I will be doing research
and using information and facts to prove my point, ultimately I would like to
persuade the reader to agree with what I think.
The boundaries that I am going to
stay within may be difficult to define. As of now, I think that I am only going
to look at athletes in organized leagues. I will focus primarily on
professional athletes, but do not want to rule out the possibility of
researching and providing information about collegiate and even high school
sports. I believe that the use of performance enhancing drugs by professional
athletes effects the use of the same drugs by students in college and high
school. This may be a good reason in support of my claim. My boundaries then,
are professional, collegiate, and high school athletes. However, I will focus
primarily on professional athletes. I would like to stay within these boundaries
in order to write an effective research paper that will actually be able to
persuade someone to agree with me.
